NBA Playoffs Betting Blog – April 28th

04/28/2011

After a 3-0 ATS Tuesday sweep by NBA Playoff favorites, we saw things revert right back on Wednesday as underdogs covered two of three games with San Antonio ending up as either a cover or a push depending on when you bet the game.

That leaves NBA Playoff favorites at a money burning 11-25-3 ATS with only a few games remaining in the first round.

We also saw all eight playoff games stay Under the total this past weekend. Overall, 20 of the first 30 games saw Under players cash. Since that time, it’s pretty much been a case of “six to one and half a dozen to the other” with five games going Over and four Under.

One second round playoff matchup is already set and it will easily be the most anticipated matchup with the Boston Celtics taking on the Miami Heat, a series many will classify as the “real” Eastern Conference Finals. Game One is Sunday at 3:30 ET on ABC in Miami and the Heat have already opened as 4.5-point favorites at Bodog Sportsbook.

Keep an eye out for MTi Sports’ winning NBA selections. The PhD Scientists went 4-0 on Wednesday and are now 17-6 overall with NBA Playoffs Picks, including 10-1 with totals! MTi sells all of their selections for just $20 guaranteed!

NBA Playoff Betting – April 25th

04/25/2011

In our previous blog, we went over some NBA betting trends that had developed through the first two games of each best of seven series. Well, those same trends continued through the weekend.

Overall this year in the NBA playoffs, underdogs are hitting at a phenomenal 22-7-1 ATS pace. They were 7-1 ATS this past weekend with the only exception being Boston over New York on Sunday. It was the second straight weekend where the dogs barked to the tune of 7-1 ATS. We have seen an underdog win a game straight up already ten times in the playoffs and again, most of those came this past weekend.

Under bettors really cleaned up in the eight Game 2’s, going 7-1. However, they outdid themselves this past weekend as all eight games stayed Under the total! Twenty of the thirty playoff games have now stayed Under the total, including 15 of the last 22.

Another interesting trend developed this past Saturday as four teams had an opportunity to win or tie the game in the final three seconds and on all four occasions failed. Then, on Sunday, we saw the Miami Heat, and in particular LeBron James, fail again in the waning seconds of a game. Philadelphia outscored the Heat 10-0 in the final 1:30 and take note that Miami is now a league worst 1 for 19 from the field this season when tied or down by three points or less and there are 10 or less seconds remaining in a game. It’s interesting to note that the Celtics are fourth worst on that list at 2 of 14.

Thursday was also an interesting day of NBA betting as all three games saw the ATS result decided by one point or less.

The margin for error is so small this NBA Playoff season so be sure to check out winning basketball picks at Vegas Experts.

NBA Playoffs Betting Blog: Thursday, April 21st

04/21/2011

We are through the first two games of all eight NBA 1st round playoff series and already some significant betting trends have developed.

Seven of the eight Game 1’s saw the underdog cash with three of those dogs – Memphis, New Orleans and Atlanta – winning outright. Underdogs again held the advantage in Game 2’s going 5-3 ATS, however this time, there were no outright wins.

Under players really cleaned up in Game 2 NBA playoff betting. Seven of the games, including all three on Wednesday, stayed under the total set by the oddsmakers. Game 1’s actually saw Over bettors hold a 5-3 advantage.

Some of our expert handicappers are on tremendous winning runs in the NBA playoffs. Ben Burns is a perfect 7-0 with his Over/Under selections while MTi Sports is a perfect 4-0 with O/U selections. Eddie Keen is on an overall 30-14 NBA Run!

John Ryan – Baseball Stats

04/21/2011

Baseball stats run in cycles and there is one that I strongly believe is bottoming out and will serve you well to wager on this team over the next two weeks. The Boston Red Sox have five starting players batting under .200 entering tonight’s game with Anaheim. The last time the Red Sox had five starters this late in the season was September 1951. That lineup was top-heavy led by Ted Williams, who batted .319 for the season and Joe Pesky, who batted .313 for the season. The current Boston lineup is not top-heavy and all nine players are strong hitting players. I strongly believe that the Red Sox may be one of the most under valued teams in MLB spanning the past 10 seasons.

Eddie Keen – MLB Betting Strategies

04/14/2011

Today we are going to take a look at a few different styles of baseball handicapping. Some say MLB betting is the easiest of all four sports. There are a few different techniques for baseball handicapping; betting on pitchers, looking at situational trends, and even jumping on winning or losing runs.

Betting on pitchers is one of the most common strategies for MLB Sports Betting. Sports handicappers will look into pitchers ERA’s and WHIP’s or even look at how they have been pitching over a span of their last three or five matchups. They will also look into past results when they face off against a certain team or how they do when they are starting at a certain park. Some starters pitch much better at home then they do on the road. Another key aspect to factor in is how many innings a certain pitcher normally pitches and how much you will have to rely on the bullpen. Betting on the stronger pitcher might be one of the most used methods for baseball handicapping but it also can have its flaws.

Using situational trends is another way to bet baseball. Looking at how a certain team plays on the road, how they play at home, if they play well coming off a day of rest, etc, would all be examples. There are many different types of situational trends to look at including pitching trends, which we have already touched on a bit. Other situational trends factor in betting lines; for example, if a team is a big favorite or big dog the team might tend to play much better or much worse. The total will even come into play here because some people might think that if a total is very low and it is due to a pitching trend for a certain starter that might be because they are a strong pitcher or maybe because a team might play harder against a pitcher that has a low ERA. There are many different types of situational trends and you can check them out at the Vegas Experts MLB Trends Page.

The last way of handicapping we are going to take a look at today is what we call “Playing the Streak”. Some handicappers will go with this method and some will go against it, as they have the thought that a team is due for a loss or due for a win. Baseball is a game of runs and teams will likely get on many long winning or losing runs throughout the long 162 game MLB regular season. Some teams might get on a huge six or nine game winning streak or a team might lose six or nine games in a row. Some sports handicappers like some momentum going into a matchup and some will look at a long winning run as a good time to go against a strong favorite as they could possibly be due for a loss.

John Ryan – The Way to Shut Down Ovechkin

04/14/2011

Just last year the eight seed Montreal Canadiens held Alexander Ovechkin to just one assist over the final two games of the series. It is reasonable to say that Montreal provided a blue print to the rest of league as Ovechkin has produced career lows in goals and scoring this season. During one stretch he had just two goals in 19 games played.

The 6-foot-2, 235 pound Ovechkin has tremendous speed, strength, and arguably the best offensive skills the game has ever seen. However, there are some solid defensive techniques that have prevented Ovechkin from using is complete scoring arsenal.

Teams are ‘Gapping Up’ on him and this means that instead of defending puck carriers at the blue line they are instead defending the red line. This technique in combination with solid back checking as he comes out of the Capitals zone prevents him from gathering top speed and gaining the middle of the ice where his athleticism overwhelms any defenseman in the league. If you are looking to make a few NHL picks The Rangers have the personnel and depth to make this happen in this series.
